On Thursday, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and Police Commissioner Charles Gardner braved the “bomb cyclone” conditions outside to welcome its six newest officers, who will now enter training.

The new hires include: Liam Deane, Adam Sousa, Rui Sousas, Daniel Piparo, Connor McMullen and Vanessa Antepara, who graduated from an orientation program at police headquarters.

Following the orientation, the new officers will begin a 20-week training program at the Westchester County Police Academy, taking courses that include police science, law, and physical fitness training. They will then complete an additional 10 weeks of Field Training at the Yonkers Police Department after graduating from the academy.

Officials said that the officers were chosen to join the department after a rigorous recruiting screening and evaluation process.
